Puppies and Sheep and Haggis and Nessie

We got up this morning and met for breakfast at Giovanni's.  The coffee was strong and the croissants were flaky.  We headed up the road and surprisingly, we only drove for 30 minutes to the Working Sheepdog Farm.  We got a demonstration of the sheepdogs working.  The scenery was gorgeous!

After the farm, we went down the road to the Highland Folk Museum, where we played Highland Games like Shinty and Wellie Toss.  The kids had a blast, and it was fun for the leaders also.  We also had a traditional school lesson in the schoolhouse.  The master taught us how to write with ink pens.  We had a very traditional lunch of stovies and oat cakes.  The stovies were gound lamb, veggies, and mashed potatoes all mixed together.  I'm sure if you like lamb, it was very good, but unfortunately, I don't like lamb.  And the oat cakes were like eating sawdust.  We also tried haggis.  I'm glad I tried it, but I don't need to try it again.  After lunch, we were on our own to explore the heritage buildings that the museum has restored.

When we left the Folk Museum, we headed to Loch Ness to search for Nessie.  We did some amazing shopping, and had a boat ride to look for Nessie.  There are the ruins of Urquhart Castle right on the edge of the loch.  The scenery around Loch Ness reminded me of western Montana.  Unfortunately, we did not see Nessie, but it was very beautiful nonetheless.

Our delegation manager Donia (Don-ya) and our Scottish bus driver Jimmy.  Donia is only 18!

Love you all and miss you lots.

  1. Kris this is your aunt posting from Western Montana-it looks like you are having a blast. It looks so green. How old are the kids?
